WorldEvents wins IMEX Commitment to the Community Award 2008
The Commitment to the Community award is made to those companies demonstrating innovative efforts to benefit a charitable initiative of choice and judged on criteria of suitability, creativity, sustainability, and the power of one. WorldEvents received the award for an event in South Africa to celebrate the centenary for its client Norgine. Prior to the event delegates were involved in raising funds to provide housing units for families that had lost a bread winner to HIV in the township local to where the event took place. These were then handed over by the delegates who proceeded to dig foundations and make and lay bricks. The target had been to provide four units but by the end of the conference sufficient funds had been raised for seven. The village has now become the company’s official charity. Commenting on the award Carina Bauer, IMEX Operations and Marketing Director said "The judges considered the Norgine Centenary Conference an exemplary CSR event. The clear and consistent communication of all the objectives, together with the strong spirit that was formed between staff and the township before, during and after the conference were extremely good. With the guidance of WorldEvents, Norgine found a partner with a great deal of knowledge, enthusiasm and focus. The result was a 'critical mass' effect that gave the project more impact than either organisation could have imagined possible at the start." Mark Saxby, Sales and Marketing Director said, ‘We are very proud to be the recipient of such a prestigious award. The event for which we received the award has had a profound effect on us as a company and acted as a catalyst to us offering a new approach to events called TripleImpact. This aims to measure both the social and environmental impact of the events as well as monitoring the return on investment. The 2008 Commitment to the Community Award was presented to Andrew Winterburn, European Development Director of WorldEvents BV by Head of the Judging Panel, Amy Spatrisano, President of the Green Meeting Industry Council and Ray Bloom, IMEX Chairman.
