WorldEvents / Overgate Hospice 'Apprentice' Challenge

International live events agency, WorldEvents was actively involved in the Overgate Hospice Family Fun Day held on Sunday 5th August. A group of employees ran a challenge which entailed five teams, including one from the company's Directors - the Hirers and Firers, pitting their wits, and in some cases a lot more, to raise funds for the charity. A number of stalls were created and ideas put into practice from a children's creative area and toy stall to throwing sponges at one of the WorldEvents Directors.

Commenting on the initiative Mark Saxby, Sales and Marketing Director, said, 'We ran over 300 events worldwide last year including one in South Africa for which we won the highest industry accolade for an event demonstrating CSR. This not only inspired us to consider the way we plan our events from an environmental and social impact perspective but also to look to get involved with a charity close to our offices in Cleckheaton. Following nominations from staff, Overgate was selected.'

Overgate Hospice provides care for individuals with life threatening illnesses as well as offering  much needed rest bite to the carers of these individuals.  The Hospice has twelve beds and twelve patient day care units.

After the day itself the teams had to present back to each other and Faye Haigh, Community Fund Raiser from Overgate, who acted as the overall judge. Commenting on what she saw Faye said, 'It was great to see the energy and enthusiasm that WorldEvents put into this not only did they raise  over £3000 but they came up with some great ideas such as the Children's activity area and painting competition. ' When it came to selecting the winning team it was the Eggzperts who got Faye's vote, 'The concept of throwing an egg as far as is possible with someone catching it at the other end really worked well despite some wayward throws!' 

As WorldEvents, Account Director, Holly Brett put it, 'We all thoroughly enjoyed the experience, found it quite exhausting but very rewarding. Our relationship with Overgate doesn't end here we have two teams competing in their It's a Knockout Competition on September 9th and we already have some further ideas for them for next year.' She went on to say, 'In terms of which team raised the most funds - well it had to be didn't it - the Hirers and Firers!
