Eventia Best Event Demonstrating CSR

In February 2007, our commitment to CSR was recognized by our winning the Eventia Gold Award for “Best Event Demonstrating CSR” for Norgine’s Centenary Conference in September 2006. A key aspect of this conference was a house building project in Mabele-A-Podi - a township 20 minutes from Sun City in South Africa where many of the villagers live in corrugated tin shacks with no running water. Many families here have lost their breadwinner to HIV AIDS. The building of low cost houses for the families who have lost both parents to HIV AIDS will really make a difference to the community.
WorldEvents recommended that prior to the conference each of the four business units raise the money required to build a house (£6000) and then once on site the representatives from that business unit built the house with their own hands.
The project provided the ideal means for Norgine to make a difference to this community not merely by donating funds but by enabling its staff to participate directly in the project which provided an experience they will never forget. See our Norgine video here
IMEX Commitment to the Community Award 2008

WorldEvents were named as Winners of the IMEX Commitment to the Community Award 2008 on 23rd April at the IMEX Trade Show in Frankfurt. IMEX is a worldwide exhibition for meetings and incentive travel and the award programme supports IMEX's environmental initiatives with four awards specifically developed to reward and promote environmental awareness and corporate social responsibility.
The Commitment to the Community award is made to those companies demonstrating innovative efforts to benefit a charitable initiative of choice and judged on criteria of suitability, creativity, sustainability, and the power of one.
C&IT CSR Challenge
We have also had our dedication to CSR recognized by being invited by Conference and Incentive Travel Magazine on their inaugural C&IT CSR Challenge in South Africa. Nine of the UK’s leading agencies plus hosts from C&IT Magazine, Eventia, Community Challenge, and South African Tourism traveled to South Africa in early September 2007 to partake in a community building programme, where we took part in a house build project for two families in Mziki Village in the KwaZulu-Natal region.
To earn our place on the challenge, WorldEvents had to illustrate how our CSR agenda had developed in the last 12 months as well as committing to raising sponsorship for Habitat for Humanity. So far over £5,000 has been pledged and further donations can be placed at www.justgiving.com/citcsrchallenge.
“The purpose of the event is two-fold,” says C&IT editor Yasmin Razak. “We want to highlight the agencies that have made the strongest commitment to CSR and put it at the heart of their agenda during the two years of our campaign. Additionally, we want to provide a clear template of an incentive that can be pitched to clients who need their event solutions to match their CSR policy.”
